Mid Feb. 2010

Jude celebrated his 9th Birthday this month! Yes, of course it was Star Wars again! He was very grateful for all his wonderful gifts. Lainey enjoyed the boxes!

Jude has been measuring things like crazy here lately. He screwed an eye hook into the bottom of his loft bed, hooked a pulley onto it, threaded it with twine and attached two little metal buckets to each end. Then he weighed some of his rock collection! He used some gram blocks to balance the rock and then wrote down 4 of the results! He loved that he could use a pulley in a different way then it's typically used. Very creative! He still has been interested in natural forces and has been reading up on those as well. Jude also has been watching Man vs Wild. He really likes that show but says how dangerous it is!

We participated in a Valentine's card swap with some online friends from all over the country! Jude loved sending the card and really enjoyed getting some back! We've been learning about the different states our "valentines" live in. We've been watching HGTV and learning about some construction and landscaping in different areas too. The 2010 giveaway home is in New Mexico and Jude said "oh dang it! I don't speak Spanish" lol I told him New Mexico not Mexico and he said "well that would be ok then, it would be a shorter drive to the Grand Canyon!" I mention how far it would be from his grandparents and he agreed but added "it would be closer to Eli!" His cousin who lives in Utah. I guess he is picking up on Geography after all!!

Math is still a struggle with him but he is starting to ask how to figure out tax for when he spends his own money. We are taking it slow and just explaining things as he asks about them and not forcing information on him.

We bought a huge workbook for the 3rd grade. It is one of those that have basic math, reading, English type things. It's more of a thing that Chad and I are confident that he is getting the basics. We have set a small reward if he is done by Christmas and a BIG reward if he is done by Lainey's Bday in August.

Lainey has been putting things in and taking them out again! She not only does it with her aquarium designed for that but her bus that Grandma and Grandpa got her. She has been curious when Jude and I are doing and experiment in the kitchen too. She has been taking smaller steps but with her arms down so I'm not sure if it's progress, or just something different! Either way we are so proud of her! She has been crawling under her bed, which is adorable. She has even fallen asleep under there! She is exploring her world and it is a beautiful thing!

This is aquasand. It is really really cool but very hard to capture in photos! Jude loves it.

We have never done lent before but this year we are giving up eating out. It's a bad and expensive habit we have and wanted to cut back and thought this would be the perfect time. This was at our last "eating out" meal. Jude called this "Dessert, Theme Chocolate" LOL He has twist ice cream with chocolate cookie crumbles, chocolate fudge, choc and nut brownie, choc. cupcake, reg choc. brownie, and hot fudge cake! Wow... and he was drinking Mt. Dew. Oh well he enjoyed it!

Jude is saying "I say there young chap" Silly little boy!

Grandma and Grandpa got Daddy a wall organizer with dry erase board attached. We leave each other notes on it (it's in our bedroom). This one is what Daddy and I found when we headed for bed the other night. Spelled wrong, yes, but couldn't have been more beautiful to us! Made me cry!

Ice Jan. 2010

Jude took a lot of pictures of the ice formations out at Papaws. He thought they were so amazingly beautiful! He has been very interested in the powers of nature the last few weeks. We watched a show on National Geographic that showed the powers of earth, water, wind, etc. He loved it and has been talking and researching online about it. Waterfalls, tidal waves, earthquakes, glaciers, Oh My! He is getting quite knowledgeable about them! He's interested in how things used to look and how they may look in the future because of these forces of nature. We love the National Geographic channel but he does notice the difference between a scientific view and our Christian view. We have always taught acceptance of other's and their different views but also make sure he has a solid foundation in Christianity. We love to see how other people live and what they believe and how it differs and aligns with our beliefs!

This one was Jude's favorite. It has a stream of water running inside the ice!
